Avinu Malkenu Mashup – The Portnoy Brothers

You walk into the synagogue late at the end of Ne’ila waiting to hear your childhood version of your favorite Avinu Malkeinu, you close your eyes preparing for that thunderstorm of spiritual glory and BOOM! The cantor sings the wrong tune!

We therefore decided to do a medley of 3 different songs, all set to the same words as we didn’t want anyone to not feel that sense of nostalgia that you deserve, so we promise there will be something familiar in this for you too.

Throughout the ages, the Jewish new year represents a returning to our own inner piece of God and thereby connecting with our tribe globally, wherever they may be.

This year, as well as releasing our second record/album of original music, we are also in the middle of creating an exciting album of Shabbat music featuring some incredible musician-friends and hundreds of years worth of beautiful Shabbat music.

We are deeply buzzing to put this out there as our way of giving back to little pockets of Jewish communities all over the world, as well as many groups of Christians too, who we have had the pleasure of playing for over the last year; many of whom have been asking where they will hear our first body of work in Hebrew. Look out for it.

This year will be our biggest and boldest yet and we can’t wait to carry on this beautiful journey, living out our dreams with you. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for every sweet comment, share, love, constructive feedback and helping us spread the beautiful, magical, inexplicable gift that calls itself music.

May we all merit a healthy, prosperous, honey-dripping New year ahead,

Sruli and Mendy,

The Portnoy Brothers
