Ari Fraser continues his exciting journey in the Holiday EP with the new single “Avinu Malkainu” – a powerful and touching work born from the heartbreak and pain of October 7th, and from the strong desire to lift the people’s spirits in the most difficult days.
The new single also offers a contemporary and particularly moving interpretation of the ancient prayer “Avinu Malkeinu“
“Avinu Malkainu” came from some kind of breaking point after October 7th,” says Fraser about the inspiration behind the song. “This is a song I wrote back then, when I was broken and shattered by what was done to my people. We didn’t have time to release it last year, it wasn’t right to release it then either, too much sorrow, heartache and sadness surrounded us. But when you hear the words, it’s not just the words of prayer. It’s something that speaks of the here and now. ‘Doing for the dead, doing for the kidnapped, doing for all the children, all those who were murdered…’, in fact it comes from our fall in this disaster, and my attempt to lift the spirit of the people and also my own spirit…”
Frazier’s musical approach, in collaboration with Chagai Mizrachi, creates a unique sound that preserves the sanctity of prayer while giving full expression to its emotional and spiritual depth. “Avinu Malkainu” joins “Keter” and “Min HaMaitzar” as part of the musical series that accompanies the month of Elul until the Yom Hadin.
The Holidays EP is leading a quiet revolution in traditional Jewish music, offering a new and most authentic way to connect with prayer and tradition. This series comes as traditional Jewish music is gaining renewed interest. Each week, the series presents a new angle on the melodies that accompany the Jewish people during prayer and holidays, while maintaining the original spirit with a contemporary and exciting touch.
